Milestones
1959
The First Restaurant
Mike and Marian Ilitch opened their first pizza restaurant in Garden City, Michigan, using their savings to get the business started.
1962
Franchising Begins
The first franchise location opened in Warren, Michigan, beginning the company’s expansion beyond the original store.
1969
International Growth
By the end of the 1960s the company had reached 50 restaurants and expanded into Canada.
1979
Pizza! Pizza!
A two-pizzas-for-one promotion helped turn the Pizza! Pizza! phrase into one of the brand’s best-known signatures.
1985
Love Kitchen
The mobile Love Kitchen began serving people in need and later supported communities affected by disasters and hardship.
1997
HOT-N-READY Era
The HOT-N-READY concept helped establish a simple grab-and-go carryout experience built around speed and everyday value.
